His Presence is Peace
Struggling to see God’s hand in difficult seasons? Find hope, peace and assurance in the faithful presence of Jesus.
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." Isaiah 26:3
It’s easy to become consumed with discouragement when challenging and unexpected things happen in our lives. Too often, we correlate the perfect peace that Jesus promises with a perfect set of circumstances. When things look different than we thought, hoped or even prayed for…it can be difficult to trace the hand of a loving father and faithful friend in the midst of it.
Scripture is full of reminders that our lives as believers will not be lives without pain or trials. In fact, we are promised that we will experience hardship. It doesn’t end there, though. The good news is that trouble does not get the final say when it comes to our lives and stories! Scripture doesn’t shy away from hard realities, but always provides us with a greater hope to hold on to!
John 16:33 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Instead of a problem-free life, we are assured that His presence will be with us through all that we experience in our lifetime. This is a far greater promise. Living in continual awareness of Jesus’ nearness allows us to take heart, or have confidence, even when we face the greatest trials.
When you feel afraid, remember that peace is not the absence of feelings of fear, but the unwavering truth that His presence will never leave or forsake you! His presence is your peace. His presence is your protection. He is your provider. You are never alone and will never be forsaken.
View trials as an opportunity to grow in trust and dependence. These are great treasures! Don’t run from Jesus, run to Him. Bring your pain, doubts, desires and disappointments to His feet. The peace He promises is not circumstantial, but a result of continual reliance on His unchanging character. Nothing that you walk through will be wasted, but used for your good and His glory.
When you feel overwhelmed, stand on the promise that He has overcome! This means that He is ultimately victorious, not just in your life and circumstances, but over all things. You are safe and secure in the sovereignty of God. You are loved, delighted in and deeply cared for. Nothing slips through His fingers!
Instead of praying for a life free of trouble, pray for a steadfast faith to be developed in you through you as a result of the troubles you experience. Dare to thank Him for the things He is producing in you, even when it’s painful. As you live in continual awareness of Jesus’ nearness and love for you, He will provide you perfect peace – a peace that no one and nothing else in this life can give!
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
