Light Of The World

Light Of The World

Written by: Maddie Joy Fischer

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Your life as a follower of Jesus should be the reason that people see Him. Keep showing up. Keep living set apart. Let your life bring Him glory in all that you say and do in both the seen and the secret places. Be continually transformed by time in His presence and remaining near to Him. Then, boldly live out transformation.

You are called to be the light of the world. The world is desperate for the hope of Jesus that is within you. Light is meant to be seen in the darkness. It’s not meant to be hidden. It’s meant to shine!

You are called to be like a town built on a hill… a town that sits high enough for everyone who passes by to see. You have been placed in a position to share the goodness and faithfulness of Jesus. Consider what people see when they see the “house” of your life! Do they experience Jesus' love, joy, and peace? Do they see something that is different from the darkness around them?

You should reveal His radiance! One of the best ways to shine your light is to share your testimony. Tell the story of the way Jesus changed your life through word and action. Don’t minimize the power of what He has done for you. It may lead someone else to believe that He can move in their life, too. Also, celebrate what He has done in other’s lives.

Friend, be challenged and encouraged by these truths. Shining your light isn’t a suggestion, but an instruction woven all throughout His word. It isn’t a call limited to a select few, but all who follow Jesus.

Don’t hide your light. Let it shine bold and bright. Keep showing up and reflecting the love of Jesus to the world around you. Show up consistently. Show up intentionally. Show up purposefully. Live set apart.

The light of Jesus within you will always overcome the darkness around you.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
