"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:12
In this passage, Paul the Apostle is writing to Timothy, reminding him that faith is never meant be passive. It should be a ongoing battle revealed through our actions, thoughts, and words. Following Jesus is not always easy. In difficult seasons, trusting and obeying Him can feel especially challenging. Discipleship requires dedication, perseverance, and deep devotion. It is not going to be a walk in the park!
That is why Paul urges us to "fight the good fight." The good fight means standing firm in truth, resisting temptation, and trusting God even when the future feels uncertain.
Taking hold of eternal life to which we are called is not about waiting for heaven as a distant reward. It is about living in the NOW. Eternal life begins the second we accept Christ as our Savior and commit to following Him. Paul calls us to not let fear, comparison, or worldly treasures steer us away from the eternity that is not only our future but also our present reality.
To take hold of eternal life means making your daily decisions with eternal priorities. It means declaring each day that your hope is eternal, your reward is eternal, your identity is eternal, which is far greater than what the world offers. Your calling is eternal.
God called YOU. Your circumstances are not an accident Your story is not random; it is woven into His calling for you.
Take some time this week to reflect on your decision to accept the eternal life that is promised to those who fight the good fight? Have there been times when the fight has been too much for you? If so, remember this: you are not fighting alone. God is with you every step of the way - working in the shadows, strenghtening you, and standing by your side even when you fall short. So pick up your cross and fight the good fight with and for the One who worthy of it all!
