Song of the Week: A Worship Song about God's Worthiness Never Changing

"If the angels won't stop singing
Why would I? Why would I?
If the elders won't stop kneeling
Why would I? Why would I?
If creation won't stop praising
Why would I? Why would I?"

These lyrics are among the most powerful in a worship song I have ever heard. There are times when worshipping is easy. When life is going well, prayers are being answered and everything seems to be working out in my favor, worshipping is easy. It is in the seasons of waiting, sadness and disappointment that worship is much harder.  It is in those seasons that these lyrics can really move people and turn their hearts back to Jesus.

Worship should not be determined based on our circumstances. Worship is based on who Jesus is and who He always has been. Throughout Scripture, we see heaven continually worshipping because God's worthiness never changes.

Revelation 5:11-12 says, "Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircle the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: " Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise." The angels in heaven declare His holiness. If the angels won't stop singing, why would I?

Revelation 11:16-17 says, "And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshipped God, saying: "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign." If the elders won't stop kneeling, why would I?

Revelation 5:13 says, "Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the sea, and all that is in them saying: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, For Ever And Ever!" If creation won't stop praising, why should I?

When I think about the verses in this song, my perspective changes. I often find myself letting my worship rise and fall depending on my emotions in that moment. If life is going well, worship is easy. If life is difficult, worship becomes quiet. But scripture shows us a different way to worship. The worship around God's throne is constant because He is constant.

Jesus is King when life is good.

Jesus is King when prayers go unanswered.

Jesus is King in the waiting.

Jesus is King even when we don't understand.

These lyrics ask a simple question, but one that points us back to our heart: If heaven never stops praising Him, why would we?

Our worship isn't about pretending life is perfect. It is about realizing that Christ is worthy of our praise even when life isn't perfect.

That is why having daily reminders like our scripture-based tees, wristlets, jewelry and stickers is so important. Our mission at Dear Heart is to create conversations about Jesus. We do this through our designs, created to point our hearts back to Jesus and to be conversation starters for the people around us.

As you go through this week, let this song remind you to lift your eyes above your circumstances and fix them on Jesus.
