Song of the Week: A Worship song about Praising God and Finding Him in Everything You Do

This week's song is just one of those songs that doesn't allow you to feel anything other than the joy of the Lord! It's fun, upbeat and a great song to just dance to. Not only is it a fun song, but the lyrics have such a powerful message all wrapped up in a fun beat.

"Wanna Sing" by Gabe Von Owen is a song I came across when I was scrolling on TikTok late at night. I have found it is during this time when I find either the most fun worship song, or one that just hits my soul so hard, there is usually no in between, and this song is no different. It is such a refreshing reminder that praising God shouldn't always be serious or quiet, it should also be fun and joyful. There are times when I praise God by turning up my music so loud and just dancing and singing in my room. This is typically when I feel closest to God apart from reading my Bible. When I praise Him in song and dance, I don't have to worry about performing for others, it is raw and vulnerable. I get to simply enjoy the presence of the Lord in my life.

There is something so beautiful about finding joy in God's presence. We don't have to wait until we're sitting in church to praise Him. His presence is with us in the everyday moments, the car rides, the workdays, the quiet mornings, the long afternoons and even the moments when we're simply dancing around the house.

Psalm 100:1-2 says, “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!”

I love that this Psalm doesn't just tell us to worship God. It tells us to worship Him with joy. Our praise doesn't have to be perfect. We don't have to have the perfect words; we can simply praise Him because He is worthy.

And sometimes, I think we make worship more complicated than it needs to be.

We can find ourselves waiting for the perfect moment to feel close to God. But here is the thing: He is already present in the moment we are standing in.

"Wanna Sing" makes me think about what it would look like to carry that kind of joy with me throughout the entire day. What if I intentionally looked for a reason to praise God in everything I do? What if instead of searching for something good to happen so I can worship, I chose to worship God because He is good?

James 1:2-4 says, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

James doesn't say to count it joy because life is going good and because the difficult things are easy. He tells us to count it all joy because we know that God is working even in the middle of them.

That is the kind of joy I feel when I listen to "Wanna Sing." A joy that doesn't have to wait for the perfect day, the answered prayer or good news. A joy that comes from knowing God is still good, still present and still working.

Maybe praising God in every moment doesn't mean that we pretend everything is OK. Maybe it means that even when things aren't OK, we choose to look for Him. We choose to trust Him. We choose to praise Him.

We can praise Him while we're working. We can praise Him while we're driving. We can praise Him while we're cooking dinner. We can praise Him in the middle of a difficult season. We can praise Him when we're celebrating and when we're simply making it through the day.

Because worship isn't only something we do. It's a way we choose to live.

So this week, let "Wanna Sing" be your reminder to look for God's presence in the ordinary. Turn up the song. Dance a little. Sing a little louder. Let yourself experience the joy that comes from knowing that the God who created you is with you right where you are.

And when you find yourself smiling, dancing or singing along, let that joy turn your heart back toward Him. Because He is worthy of our praise.
