Song Of The Week: A Worship Song about Saying Yes to God
Isaiah 6:8 says, “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’”
Isaiah didn’t have a five-year plan. He didn’t know what God was going to ask of him or where He was going to lead him. He was simply willing and able to go when he heard God’s question.
To me, that is one of the most challenging questions to ever answer.
If God asked you to go, would you be willing?
Not once you know what the future holds or where it will lead you. Not once the timing makes sense for you. Not when you feel qualified to go. But simply to say, “Here I am, Lord! Send me.”
This week’s song, “I Will Go” by Starfield, is a song I had never heard until about a week ago. When I listen to my playlists, I turn on Spotify’s Smart Shuffle, and this was one of the songs it queued up.
Now, when I listen to music while I clean, it really is just background noise. I’m usually focused more on cleaning than I am on the song playing. But this one line stopped me.
“Take everything I am, I’m clay within Your hands. I will go, I will go, send me.”
I heard that line playing in the background while I was cleaning and stopped. I put down the vacuum, sat down on the ground and started the song over.
I just sat there.
There was something about those words that challenged me. It made me think about what it actually means to tell God, “I will go.”
I don’t know exactly what it was about those words that made me stop, but they did, and they have stayed with me since. Here lately, I have been thinking a lot about my future and the direction I want it to take, but I also realized it is not my life to plan, and my plan is not His plan.
If you had told me a year ago that I would be working at Dear Heart, getting to use my love for writing to help bring someone to know Christ, I would not have believed you.
Up until 10 months ago, I was set on leaving Wichita Falls, moving up north and pursuing a career in sports journalism. But one day, while I was on my lunch break at a job I had worked at for the past five years, I received a call that threw all my plans out the door.
Little did I know that phone call would completely change my life and put me on the path God was calling me to walk.
What would it look like for you to say yes before you know exactly where God is sending you?
I may not know where He is leading me next, but I want to be willing to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
