Song of the Week: A Worship Song About The Cross and Jesus' Sacrifice

This is such a powerful song. Especially in the time we are in now that Holy Week and Resurrection Day has passed, but that doesn't mean we just move on from Jesus' sacrifice, or forget about it now that Easter is over.

This song tells the powerful story of our Savior in a way that brings His sacrifice and story closer to our hearts. It reminds us that Jesus hung on the cross for our sins.

There is a powerful parallel woven into this song that is impossible to ignore.

The same hands that worked with wood for a living... would be the same hands that would be nailed to the cross. Jesus understood the weight of what He came to do. His sacrifice was intentional from the beginning. Everything He endured while walking the Earth wasn't accidental.

In Philippians 2:8 we are told, "He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on the cross." His sacrifice wasn't just the moment of the cross. It was a lifetime of obedience and complete trust that lead up to the cross.

"Carpenter boy, the perfect Lamb.

Trusting in His Father's plan.

No matter what would come ahead.

He'd be faithful to the very end."

These powerful lyrics from the song show exactly how obedient Jesus was until the very end. Even when He knew He would be sacrificed on the cross.

This song isn't about Jesus' sacrifice to the world. It is a song about His sacrifice for YOU. "The one who put MY cross upon his shoulders. The king of kings has come and made me whole." He died this death for you and for me. He took the penalty of death for our sins. Let the reality of this sacrifice settle into your heart. A death that during that time period was reserved for barbarians and savages, the type of criminal the Romans didn't believe were human. He took that punishment for me. For you. He did it out of love not out of obligation.

The final lyrics of the song are:

"Praise the savior.

Who died upon a tree that He created.

He carved my name.

It's written up in heaven.

The carpenter is building us a home."

He carved your name in Heaven. There is a place for you.

Our "Good News" tee is the perfect reminder that Jesus was sent to die on the cross for our sins, so that you and I would have eternal salvation. What better way to show the love of our savior with others than with a shirt that can start a conversation about Jesus and the sacrifice that was the cross.

Philippians 2: 9-11 " Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that all the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth; and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Share the Good News! Take the time out of your day to tell a loved one, a stranger or a coworker that they are deeply loved. Tell them the story of Jesus and what his sacrifice means for them.
