Song of the Week: Worship Song About Overcoming Hard Times

If you have not made time to go see the newly released "I Can Only Imagine 2" yet, I strongly encourage you to make the time. Whether it is with friends, family or even by yourself, it is a movie you do not want to miss. I chose this song because as I sat in the theater with tears streaming down my face while it played, the meaning behind it—and the weight of the lyrics—truly hit me.

"I know You're able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone
I know the sorrow, and I know the hurt
Would all go away if You'd just say the word
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone"

We were never promised an easy, pain-free, or peaceful life. In fact, Scripture tells us the opposite. In John 16:33, Jesus says, "I have told you all this so that you will have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world." In Acts 14:22, Luke writes that the apostles were strengthening the believers and encouraging them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. And in Psalm 34:19, it says, "The righteous person faces many troubles but the Lord comes to the rescue each time."  Three different places in Scripture remind us that we will face troubles and hardships. Yet each also points us to the same hope: through God’s love and the strength He gives us, we can overcome them.

We are going to face hard times - there is no way around it. But God has a plan for your life that is greater than anything you could ever imagine.

It is easy to praise God and live faithfully when everything in life is going well and there are no troubles. It becomes much harder when you feel like you have no hope, or when it seems like there is no end in sight to the struggles you are facing.

"It's easy to sing
When there's nothing to bring me down
But what will I say
When I'm held to the flame
Like I am right now"

But just like the message in the song, even when God allows us to face adversity or seasons where we feel completely worn down, our hope is found in Him alone. Pray and ask God to give you the strength to say—and truly mean—“It is well with my soul,” not only in the easy times, but especially in the hard ones.

That’s why our God’s Plan Necklace is such a beautiful and sentimental piece of jewelry. It serves as a daily reminder that no matter what we go through—no matter the struggles or hardships we face—God is with us and has greater plans for our lives. All we have to do is place our hope in Him and be able to say, “It is well with my soul.”
