Song of the Week: A Worship Song about A Story of Redemption + Hope

We are going to slow things down a bit this week. Finding this song was such a God thing. I was scrolling on TikTok like I normally do before going to sleep, and I felt a sense of restlessness in my heart and mind. I knew there was no way I was going to fall asleep anytime soon. As I was doing what is considered "doomscrolling,"  I came across a TikTok of a guy playing this song on a guitar; turns out the guy playing the song was the artist of this song. I immediately got off TikTok and went to Spotify to search for this song.

And I just sat. Sat with my eyes closed and just took in the song's lyrics. The only words I have to describe what this song made me feel were an overwhelming sense of gratitude and hope.

Gratitude for everything God has done. For sending His only Son to die on the cross for my sins. For loving me even when I don't feel like I'm enough. For never leaving me to walk this life alone.

It's like Roe said in the song: "My God isn't one to leave me in my mess. You put my burdens on your shoulders. And my thorns upon your head. You walked the walk I never could up until your final breath. God, you loved me, loved me to death. Loved me to death." 

Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He took my thorns and placed them on His head because He loved me so deeply.

Thank you, Jesus, for everything.

Not only does the song make me feel gratitude for the sacrifice Jesus gave, but it also gives me hope and reassurance through the story of redemption.

"Having faith is hard sometimes. But not as steep as the hill you climbed. With the weight of the world digging into your back. Bearing my sin, wearing my past. Your blood was stained on my two hands. You washed me clean, I don't understand. Why you chose me without a second guess."

Having faith is hard, but it's nowhere near as hard as what Jesus went through on the cross. It is through Jesus' blood that we have been redeemed. We have been washed clean by the blood that He shed on the cross for our sins.

The two most powerful lyrics in the whole song are: "It was my sin that nailed you to that cross. But it was your love that kept you from getting off."

How can we not thank Jesus for everything after hearing those lyrics? How can we not believe in Him and find hope in Him? Hope that He will not leave us in our own mess. Hope that He will carry our burdens for us. Jesus gave everything for us on that cross, He deserves our everything in return.

As you listen to this song, I pray that you slow down and take a few minutes to thank Jesus. Thank Him for everything good in your life. Thank Him for the sacrifice He gave. And most importantly, thank Him for the hope he provides through His presence.
