Song of the Week: A Worship Song about Knowing God has Good Plans for Us
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11.
I don't know about anybody else, but my first thought in any situation is, "What is the worst that can happen?" And after that, it is a downhill slide of all these thoughts running through my mind and feeling so anxious that I try to talk myself out of going where I am supposed to.
This has been a battle I have faced since I was in high school. Every invite I received, any new place I had to go, when athletics started up, no matter what it was I was facing, I would do anything I could to get out of feeling like that.
And looking back now ... I know I missed opportunities God was calling me to explore.
I used to let the anxiety and the fear of not knowing what is next stop me, but as time goes on, I am learning to trust in the One who already knows what's ahead. The One who, in Jeremiah 29:11, says He has "plans to prosper and not to harm" me.
When I first heard the message behind September's verse of the month, I knew this song would be the perfect fit for this tee. This week's song of the week is "Trust You Again" by Rolling Hills Worship and Jordan St. Cyr.
The song reminds me that there is nothing that compares to all God has done and the way He loves me. God has given me reason after reason to trust Him again. Because of everything He has already done, I can trust Him with whatever comes next.
This song perfectly sums up what my faith looks like. God has given me reason after reason to trust Him again. Even when I don't know what is coming next, I can look back at everything He has already done and remember that He has always been faithful.
His ways are better than mine, and His plans are greater than anything I could come up with on my own. He already knows what is ahead, even when I can't see past today.
The unknown feels scary. Maybe you've been tempted to stay where you're comfortable because you're afraid of what could happen if you step into something new. But what if, instead of asking, "What is the worst that can happen?" we started asking, "What is the best that could happen?"
No matter what comes next, we can trust Him again.
