Song Of The Week: A Worship Song About Living Out God's Purpose
We don't shine so others see us. We shine so others can see Jesus through us.
Our light is the overflow of our identity in Christ. When we understand that we are loved, chosen, redeemed and made with purpose, that transformation can't help but be seen by others. The way we love, the way we serve others and the joy we have all become reflections of the One who changed our lives. And in the end, it all points back to Jesus.
"I know who I am because I know who You are."
How powerful is that statement?
My identity isn't built on my accomplishments, my failures, or what the world says about me. It isn't determined by my past or the circumstances I find myself in. My identity is found in Christ alone. I know who He is. He is a faithful, loving, gracious and unchanging Savior. Because of this, I can stand confident in who He says I am. I am redeemed, chosen and deeply loved. I have found that nothing in this world offers the same security, hope and peace that Jesus does.
That is why this song is one of the most meaningful songs I have ever heard. Every time I listen to it, which is daily, I am reminded that I was put on this earth for a reason. It wasn't to simply survive, settle or spend my life chasing the temporary things this world has to offer. I was created for a much bigger purpose. I was created and called to know Jesus, to reflect His love and to disciple others.
That is why our "Radiant" bracelet is such an important reminder. This bracelet is part of our "Image" collection, and its meaning is, "I am radiant in the image of Christ."
The verse behind this bracelet is Psalm 34:5, which says, "Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces."
I love how this verse is worded. It doesn't say those who have everything together are radiant, or those who try harder or are more confident are radiant. It says, "Those who look to Him" are radiant.
Our radiance isn't something we create ourselves. It comes from fixing our eyes on Jesus and doing what He has called each and every one of us to do. The more we spend time with Him, trust Him and remember our identity in Him, the more others will see Him through us. His light begins to shine through us.
That is what it means to be radiant. Not drawing attention to ourselves, but reflecting the glory of the One who created us and the One who reminds us every day that we were made for more.
