He Gives You The Strength To Do Hard Things
Feeling alone is possibly one of the most disheartening things we can experience as humans, and that's me speaking from experience. We were not made to be alone here on earth.
Genesis 2:18 says, “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’” The need for companionship and community goes all the way back to when Adam and Eve first walked the earth, but to me, the need for companionship goes way deeper than the people I am walking through life with. To me, it goes back to the need for God in my life.
God created us for companionship with other people, but no human relationship can replace our need for Him.
Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” This verse does not say I can do all things through my own strength or my own way. Paul wasn't saying, “I can do anything because God will make everything work out the way I want.” He was saying that no matter what circumstance he found himself in, Christ was the One who gave him strength to endure it.
Even when I feel alone, I don't have to face that feeling in my own strength. Christ is with me in both the seasons of abundance and the seasons of hardship.
We are going to feel alone, discouraged, afraid of what’s to come and experience so many other emotions throughout our lives. And the enemy will try to use those moments to pull us away from God. He can make isolation feel like evidence that God has abandoned us.
He can make the things of this world look like the answer to our emptiness, convincing us that if we just follow the world, our lives will somehow be better. But the things that look appealing in the moment will never satisfy what only God can fill. Eventually, the facade falls away, and we are left seeing those things for what they really are.
When we find ourselves in those lonely or difficult seasons, we have to be careful about where we turn. The enemy wants us to believe that God is distant when, in reality, He is right there with us. God is the only One who can truly satisfy. Our feelings may change, our circumstances may change and the people around us may change, but God remains constant. We may feel alone, but we are never alone when we have Him.
The world tells us to rely on ourselves. God invites us to rely on Him. To be strong enough, independent enough and capable enough to make it through whatever comes your way. But God never asked us to do it all on our own. This is where God wants us to lean on Him. He is our strength. He doesn't abandon us in the middle of the storm. He meets us there.
So when you find yourself in the middle of the storm, don't be afraid to lean on Him. When you feel like you can't take another step, let Him be your strength. When you feel alone, remember that you aren't. He is there in the middle of it all.
